Adjunct Assistant Professor, Old Dominion University, rdunbar@odu.edu
Special Projects Coordinator, Elizabeth River Project, rdunbar@elizabethriver.org
Welcome! I am honored to be a 2025 Environmental Sustainability and Resilience Practitioner Fellow with the University of Virginia's Environmental Institute. I will be highlighting my twenty-five year nonprofit career to help restore a polluted river through collaborative innovation; my qualitative research on water policy, marine debris and stakeholder engagement; course development and teaching; and mentoring to develop and prepare leaders for the workforce.
I received my PhD from Old Dominion University, and my focus is on leadership, environmental policy, stakeholders from multiple sectors and marine debris. My career at the nonprofit Elizabeth River Project reflects the marriage of art and science, STEM education and stewardship. I view work as an opportunity to create out-of-the-box projects that provide solutions to challenges including wicked problems.
