Youth Education

My career reflects the marriage of art and science. Since 2000, I created and led award-winning environmental education programs for the nonprofit Elizabeth River Project in Norfolk, Virginia to inspire youth to make restoration of the Elizabeth River a reality and help create a resilient community.
I received the 2019 Presidential Award of Excellence in Science, Mathematics, Engineering and Mentoring (PAESMEM) from the National Science Foundation and White House and I'm a Certified National Geographic Educator.
RIVEROLOGY
I received a master's degree of arts from Old Dominion University in Humanities Cultural & Human Geography. I developed an inquiry-based curriculum that includes ten lessons to help youth learn about rivers and inspire stewardship. Each lesson follows six steps: inquire, visualize, draw share, act and reflect. The Elizabeth River serves as a model for each activity, but you are encouraged to substitute YOUR home river.
